Wheelock Storytelling Garden
The Brief: To transform an overgrown, tree covered area within school grounds into a woodland storytelling garden, celebrating the life of a much loved teacher.
Considerations: Overgrown, tree-covered shady site with poor soil quality; no existing planting areas; children’s safety; introduction of interactive and exploratory garden features; storytelling theme; limited funds for a large area.
Solutions: Area re-landscaped; soft pathways dug out; trees crown-lifted, pollarded and pruned; natural and recycled materials used; use of curves and no sharp edges; planting beds created; soil improved prior to planting; shady, woodland and sensory planting selections; inspiration taken from children’s literature.
Planting Design
The Brief: Multiple sites requiring colourful and stylish planting designs specific to each client’s needs.
